Few people on our planet don't want to know God. Most would love to have a God encounter. They do not want to encounter our religion and as strange as it sounds to the average church attendee, they do not want an encounter with our morals either. They want to encounter God. So why do they stand so far off from most of us who are called Christianity? They are concerned they will only get the morality of God without encountering God himself. They have a valid concern. I have been to hundreds of churches where I didn't encounter God either, and I fully believe in him.
Some TV producers from England who are not Christians recently saw the Steve and Kathy show and even went to Youtube to watch some skits and from there went to hear me preach a sermon. They got very excited, said they had never seen anything like it and offered to help in any way they can to get the show where it needs to be. WOW!
What does that tell you. I can tell you what it tells me. The world wants to know God. Only two things can go wrong. The first thing that can go wrong is that the church won't change a thing and will just keep doing what it has always done. The second thing that can go wrong is that the church will change everything, water down the message and compromise the gospel principals of love, commitment and sacrifice.
Here is my advice. Don't be afraid to change the packaging but do be afraid of those that want to bring compromise in the name of outreach to the world.
Don't start with a message of morality or depravity. Give them a biblical package of the gospel wrapped in the wonderful, powerful, glorious presence of God. I believe this plan will work for you as is now working for us.
