God is not a pacifist

I was in college during the Vietnam War.  The draft came up, and I barely squeaked by having my number called.  My birthdate was the next one on the list in my county, but fortunately they filled their quota with young soldiers born just the day before I was. I knew some guys who didn’t want to take a chance, so they pretended to be pacifists and snuck over the border to Canada.

I’ve learned this over the years, that God is not a pacifist. He sure isn’t a sissy who runs away from a good fight.  He is not a God who is on everyone’s side, like so many pansy, compromising preachers want everyone to think.  There’s one thing I am certain that God IS. Our God, as Moses sang in Exodus 15, is a warrior. And Yahweh is His name.

He has always revealed Himself as a warrior who gives victory to His people who trust and obey Him. All through the Bible, he gave his people the “God advantage.”  If he could deliver Moses and a bunch of ex-slaves from the hand of Pharaoh, help a little shepherd boy bring down Goliath, and bring down Jericho with a crew of marching, shouting guys, I figure he can still do that kind of stuff today.

I’m expecting God to give us the God advantage as we fight for revival.  And I’m expecting him to give our boys fighting for us in Iraq and Afghanistan that God advantage, too. It’s time for our troops who have willingly volunteered to fight for what is right to be backed up with supernatural demonstrations of God’s big guns.
